DIM (Diindolylmethane)
3,3'-Diindolylmethane
Also known as: DIM, Diindolylmethane
Overview
A phytonutrient formed during digestion of cruciferous vegetables. Critical for estrogen metabolism and maintaining healthy testosterone-to-estrogen ratios in men.
Proposed mechanism
Promotes 2-hydroxylation of estrogens over the proliferative 16α-hydroxylation pathway, reducing estrogenic activity. Inhibits aromatase enzyme to limit testosterone-to-estrogen conversion.
Mechanisms describe how researchers think a compound may act, often from laboratory work — a proposed mechanism is not proof of a clinical effect in people.
