Complement Theory
The framework behind our education
Complement Theory is the educational framework Operation Whole Health uses to organize what is known about the biological toll of military service — and where natural, nutritional, and lifestyle approaches may play a supporting role alongside conventional care.
Military service places measurable, documented stress on several body systems at once: sleep architecture, endocrine function, the gut microbiome, respiratory tissue, and the neurological effects of blast exposure and traumatic brain injury. These do not occur in isolation. They compound.
Complement Theory is our name for reading those systems together rather than one clinic visit at a time. The word "complement" is deliberate: the framework is designed to sit alongside VA and civilian medical care, not to replace it. Nothing here is a substitute for a physician, a psychiatrist, or a prescribed treatment plan.
We publish the framework openly, including where the evidence is strong, where it is preliminary, and where it is genuinely unresolved. Where we cite research, we link the study so you can read it yourself.
