Ginger Root

Zingiber officinale

Also known as: Common Ginger, Adrak

Overview

A cornerstone of Ayurvedic Agni (digestive fire) restoration. Ginger is a widely studied botanical, with over 100 identified compounds, including the gingerols and shogaols linked to its traditional digestive and anti-nausea uses.

Proposed mechanism

6-gingerol and shogaols inhibit COX-2 and 5-LOX inflammatory pathways, accelerate gastric emptying, stimulate bile production, modulate the gut microbiome, and activate the gut-brain axis via vagal afferents.

Mechanisms describe how researchers think a compound may act, often from laboratory work — a proposed mechanism is not proof of a clinical effect in people.
