Who they are

Founded by former Green Beret Keith Holland.

Joint Task Force K9s is a faith-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit that trains and places elite service dogs — free of charge — with combat veterans, law enforcement officers, and first responders living with post-traumatic stress and traumatic brain injury. Dogs are raised in-house from their own litters and matched carefully to each recipient.

What they do

Elite service dogs

About 14 months of training per dog. Dogs learn to recognize stress-related scent changes in their handler and step in early — a nudge, a paw, a reason to pause.

Search & rescue

Veteran-handler teams train for search-and-rescue and human remains detection, deploying with partners like Heroes for Humanity — including after Hurricane Helene and the Texas floods.

K9 therapy classes

Group classes that bring dogs and service members together, building connection and routine for people not yet matched with a dog of their own.

Education & advocacy

Keynotes, community outreach, and Quill's First Mission — a children's book that follows a K9 through a real disaster response.

In the field

Real teams. Real families.

How the partnership works

Joint Task Force K9s

  • Trains and places the dog
  • Team training for handler and K9
  • Search-and-rescue missions and K9 classes

Operation Whole Health

  • Veterans waiting on a JTF K9s match can start Operation Whole Health wellness sessions in the meantime — sleep, nutrition, stress tools, and herbal plant medicine education.
  • The two organizations share outreach at veteran events, starting with MCON 2026 in Las Vegas.
  • Each organization runs its own programs and makes its own decisions about who it serves.
